About Us
“Bringing a wide-ranging problem into focus one place, one child at a time.”
In response to the growing problem of child sexual abuse, a group of concerned citizens formed the Child Advocacy Center in 1985. A private, non-profit agency, it is the result of a cooperative effort of local government, medical, mental health, educational, social service, and law enforcement agencies.
From the beginning, one of the main goals of the Child Advocacy Center was to provide a single location to coordinate the Mobile community’s response to the problem of child sexual abuse and to provide a child-friendly environment to begin the healing process. Created to be a “special place” for any child who walks through its doors, everything at the center conveys that the child is important and respected by the adults who work here.
Today the Child Advocacy Center occupies over 8,000 square feet and houses nearly 30 specially trained professionals from several different agencies.
Most of these representatives are committed full-time to the Child Advocacy Center, forming a multidisciplinary team to maximize efforts to treat and prevent child sexual abuse. This exceptional level of cooperation has been used as a model for other cities in the country, as the Mobile Child Advocacy Center is one of those few places in the nation to have so many agencies under one roof.
